Ritalin May Cause Tourette's, Heart and Liver Problems

Ritalin side effects are well documented, as it remains the most prescribed ADHD treatment drug on the market. Some of these adverse reactions are common to other prescription medications, while others can be very serious.

Ritalin is a stimulant, like Adderall and Concerta, which helps the brain normalize levels of chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters. It is theimbalance of these chemicals that is believed to be the root of ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder ) and related medical conditions, although modern science does not know for sure.

While it can be an effective tool in the fight against ADHD, it's important to understand that it's a temporary solution, not a cure. Once the patient stops taking Ritalin, the beneficial effects are gone. And there are endless potential health risks that many parents are simply unaware of.

What are the side effects of Ritalin?

Let's start out with some of the most common problems, followed by some less common ones:

Most Common Adverse Reactions from Ritalin:

Nervousness * Skin Rash * Fever * Hypersensitivity * Anorexia * Nausea * Dizziness * Palpitations * Headaches * Dyskinesia (Involuntary Facial and Body Movements) * Drowsiness * Blood Pressure Changes * Cardiac Arrhythmia * Abdominal Pain * Weight Loss

Other Possible Problems:

It is very important to know that long-term effects of Ritalin in children have not been well established.

There have been published reports of Tourette's Syndrome as one of the side effects of Ritalin, as well as toxic psychosis, instances of abnormal liver function, cerebral arteritis, transient depressed mood, and scalp hair loss.

There have been rare instances of NMS (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome), a life-threatening reaction to medication characterized by fever, muscular rigidity, altered mental status, and autonomic dysfunction.

Our most recent look at Novartis' prescribing information, in the summer of 2012, revealed warnings of sudden death in those with existing heart problems, hypertension, and other heart problems. They also warn of the potential of new psychotic or manic symptoms, even in patients with no prior history. Aggression, seizures and blurred vision are also mentioned.

Coenzyme Q10 - a vitamin-like substance found naturally in the body, coenzyme Q10 is an essential nutrient for the well-being and proper functioning of the heart.

Calcium & Magnesium - both of these minerals have been shown to help reduce blood pressure.

Vitamin E - studies show Vitamin E may help reduce the risk of developing heart disease.

Vitamin C - used in conjunction with Vitamin E it may slow the progression of atheroscleroisis.

Vitamin B6, B12 & Folic Acid - when combined together there is evidence to suggest that these nutrients lower the risk of heart attack.

Are there natural alternatives to Ritalin?

Many studies indicate that ADHD might be due to poor health of the neurotransmitters in the brain. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that are responsible for all of the processes in your body. Poor neurotransmitter health is a result of inadequate nutrients being delivered to your brain.

Many teenagers and adults have serious nutrient deficiencies due to their diets and lifestyles. We have found a high quality product with natural ingredients that can "feed" the neurotransmitters. These natural ingredients can help promote brain function - increasing mental concentration and self-control, as well as helping maintain focus and attention.

The product is a special Focus Formula and it contains all natural ingredients that may help treat the symptoms of ADHD as well as promote general health and well-being.

The supplement has a synergized blend of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other important nutrients for the brain and the body.
