In combination, under the brand name Qsymia, these medications have proven effective at curbing the appetite and allowing those who struggle to lose weight to drop some unwanted pounds.
The exact way Qsymia works to reduce weight is not known, but it may be a combination of curbing appetite, blocking certain receptors in the brain and increasing the amount of energy used by the body, thus allowing for more rapid burning of calories.
While there is some question about how it works, clinical studies have proven that it is, to some degree at least, effective. Individuals who have taken Qsymia for a year had varying rates of weight loss, but generally there was a loss of between 8% and 10% of their body weight. Aside from these potential issues, common side effects of Qsymia can include mood changes, insomnia, confusion, dizziness, anxiety, inability to concentrate, irritability, a tingly feeling, dry mouth and an altered sense of taste.
While a desire to lose weight is understandable, when you balance the potential risks and rewards of taking Qsymia, this doesn’t seem like the most sensible way to go. No matter what your struggle has been with weight issues, you need to ask yourself if it is really worth taking something as serious as an anti-seizure medication simply to lose some weight.
Consider, too, the fact that this is not a miracle cure. Simply taking these pills alone will not be enough to cause you to lose weight. Qsymia is only recommended in conjunction with a healthy routine of diet and exercise.
No matter how you look at it, there will be work involved in losing weight, so if you are willing to put in that effort then perhaps there are better ways to go about it than supplementing your healthy approach with a dangerous medication.
Eating right, exercising and using completely organic weight loss aids is a much wiser approach that will give you better and longer lasting results every time.
