Herbalife nutrition products have been around for quite some time, and millions of people worldwide use their supplements.
However, the company has been the subject of numerous lawsuits over the years, some from consumers regarding misleading claims, others from distributors regarding the lack of profitability of the Herbalife health nutrition MLM program.
Their products consist of a number of weight loss supplements, protein snacks, energy boosters and hair and skin treatments.
Despite their popularity, the FDA has cracked down on Herbalife a number of times, in the early eighties for making false claims regarding the treatment of diseases and health conditions, and again a few years later regarding negative side effects that some of the products caused.
It is also interesting to note that the founder of Herbalife, Mark Hughes, died of a drug overdose in 2000 at the age of 44 under some very strange circumstances.
More recently, the company was forced to pull the ephedra based nutritional products off the market due to problems with the herbal extract.
Other problems for the company include lawsuits from distributors crying foul about the promised profit potential of the multi-level-marketing program they offer. Some of the claims center around the fact that there are too many distributors, and not enough untapped clients to make it profitable.
Herbalife is now requiring all new distributors to sign a contract stating that they are not allowed to bring class action suits against the company. This is an interesting development, as it means any problems will be settled through arbitration, which greatly favors the company. This certainly isn't a show of confidence by the company...quite the opposite.
Herbalife is a popular company, and many people are happy with their products as well as their distributor program.
However, due to the legal troubles and numerous complaints, you might want to consider an alternative to Herbalife health nutrition whether you are looking to take or sell dietary products.
As far as making herbal supplements a business, there are a number of great programs out there without the controversy and with less competitors. As a consumer, there are also plenty of manufacturers of high quality supplements. So know that you do have options, and in this case, bigger isn't always better.
