Chewable Fish Oil Capsules - Are they Good?

Many of our visitors have written to us regarding chewable fish oil capsules and if they are a good source of the concentrated Omega 3 fatty acids, namely DHA and EPA.

However, pure supplements typically either come in liquid or gelatin capsule form. As the name implies, a chewable capsule would leave a horribly unpleasant taste in your mouth, and as such they are not usually offered this way. As it is even some of the better supplements will cause you to have a "fish burp" or two, which is one of the drawbacks people often deal with.

How come I've seen chewable fish oil capsules on the market?

These products are usually not concentrated oil, but rather contain EPA or other Omega 3 fatty acids that may or may not be derived from fish.

Although you can get some of the health benefits from these products, you are much better off with a pure concentrated fish oil supplement in liquid, or preferably gelatin capsule form.

Where can I find a high quality supplement?

Only pure fish oils contain the special benefits of DHA and EPA Omega-3 fatty acids. So you can't just buy any product and expect to reap the benefits. Even those on most supermarket and health food stores are subpar when it comes to the quantity and quality of the fish oil in the product:

Some other things you should keep in mind:

  1. Natural fish oils are oftentimes contaminated with heavy metals such as mercury.

  2. Most supplements in capsule form do not come from the country where they are harvested, meaning there are often additives to make sure they stay fresh through all of the extra handling and processing.

  3. Many supplements contain low levels of DHA, which is the most important component.

Therefore, you need to find a concentrated fish oil pill that does not have any of the drawbacks mentioned above.

Finding The Very Best Supplement

Here is a quick primer on what you should look for when choosing your fish oil supplement:

  1. It should contain molecularly distilled fish oil ester (your body needs it in ester form to use it properly). If it is not in this form it will be much harder for your body to break it down and this will minimize its effectiveness.

  2. It should be harvested in a pristine environment, in natural waters that are free of contaminants. You don't want the fish that the oil is extracted from living in filthy, toxin filled water. The cleaner the environment, the healthier the fish, which in turn means that the oils harvested are cleaner and healthier.

  3. It should be selected, processed and encapsulated by a single source, to avoid all of the possible contamination associated with excessive handling. Too many parties handling the product increases the opportunity for spoilage, contamination and tampering.
We have found extraordinary pure concentrated fish oil manufactured by a company called Xtend-Life from the pristine waters of the Southern Ocean in New Zealand. The particular fish is called Hoki, and it contains the highest levels of DHA, the Omega-3 fatty acid with the greatest therapeutic value.

These waters are free of contaminants, yielding the safest possible fish oils that are even further purified during processing. The best part is there are no additives, as the harvesting, processing and encapsulation is all done by the same health company under the strictest manufacturing standards in the world.

We recommend you incorporate these high quality concentrated fish oil supplements into your diet. We believe you will be happy with the results.
