What is Restylane exactly?

Restylane is a gel substance made with hyaluronic acid. Although hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the human body, the hyaluronic acid substance in Restylane does not come from either an animal or human source, but is described as a stabilized form of hyaluronic acid.

Restylane is injected into the skin with a fine needle and produces visible results immediately following the procedure. The injections are thought to be only slightly uncomfortable; however, depending on the area being injected, the physician may apply anesthesia to the area before giving the injection.

The primary purpose of Restylane injections is to correct signs of aging, such as wrinkles, creases and fine lines on the face. It is typically used to eliminate the creases that are visible from the nose to the mouth, frown lines in the forehead, crow’s feet and the space between the eyebrows.
